VLS full form in ENT is videolaryngoscopy. It is a camera-based examination that lets an ENT clinician look at the larynx (voice box), vocal folds and nearby throat structures. VLS can show an abnormal area, but a camera view alone does not confirm cancer; tissue diagnosis requires a biopsy when clinically indicated.

VLS test क्या है?
Videolaryngoscopy में light और camera वाला scope इस्तेमाल करके larynx और vocal folds को देखा जाता है। कई clinics “VLS” शब्द का उपयोग flexible camera examination, rigid oral telescope examination या recorded laryngeal examination के लिए करते हैं। आपके लिए कौन-सा method उचित है, यह symptoms, gag reflex, nasal passage और clinician के examination plan पर निर्भर करता है.
VLS और stroboscopy एक ही चीज़ मानना सही नहीं है. Stroboscopy एक अतिरिक्त technique है जिसमें flashing light से vocal-fold vibration का detailed assessment किया जाता है। हर VLS system या appointment में stroboscopy शामिल हो, यह मानकर न चलें.
ENT doctor VLS कब suggest कर सकते हैं?
VLS निम्न complaints में larynx को सीधे देखने में मदद कर सकता है:
- आवाज़ बैठना, बदलना या कमजोर होना;
- बार-बार voice strain या professional voice use;
- गले में discomfort, persistent irritation या lump-like sensation;
- निगलने में तकलीफ के selected cases;
- noisy breathing, suspected vocal-fold movement problem या airway concern;
- ENT examination में कोई area closer inspection माँगता हो.
AAO-HNS guidance के अनुसार, dysphonia (voice change) चार सप्ताह में improve न हो तो laryngeal examination किया जाना चाहिए या ऐसे clinician को referral होना चाहिए जो यह कर सके। Serious underlying cause का concern हो तो earlier assessment उचित हो सकता है.
VLS procedure कैसे होता है?
Flexible examination
एक पतला flexible scope आम तौर पर नाक के रास्ते पीछे की ओर ले जाकर throat और voice box को देखा जाता है। Patient जाग रहा होता है और normal breathing करता है। Clinician “ई” बोलने, pitch बदलने, गिनती करने या निगलने के लिए कह सकता है ताकि vocal folds की movement देखी जा सके.
Rigid examination
कुछ voice examinations में rigid telescope मुँह से रखा जाता है। इससे clear images मिल सकती हैं, लेकिन strong gag reflex वाले patients में flexible route अधिक suitable हो सकता है। कौन-सा method होगा, यह appointment से पहले या examination के समय clinician तय करता है.
क्या anaesthesia या admission चाहिए?
Routine flexible examination अक्सर outpatient setting में होता है। कुछ patients में local anaesthetic या decongestant spray उपयोग किया जा सकता है; यह हर patient के लिए आवश्यक नहीं होता। यह page diagnostic camera examination की बात करता है—operation theatre में होने वाली direct microlaryngoscopy, biopsy या surgery अलग procedures हैं.
क्या VLS painful है?
Flexible scope से pressure, tickling, watering, gagging या brief discomfort हो सकता है। इसे severe pain के रूप में प्रस्तुत नहीं किया जाना चाहिए, पर हर patient का अनुभव अलग होता है। Rare short-lived effects में nosebleed, coughing, light-headedness या vocal-cord spasm शामिल हो सकते हैं। Blood-thinning medicines, frequent nosebleeds, nasal blockage, allergy to sprays, pregnancy या major medical illness हो तो clinician को पहले बताएं.
VLS क्या बता सकता है—और क्या नहीं?
Examination vocal folds की appearance और movement, inflammation, swelling, nodules, polyps, paralysis या किसी suspicious area को देखने में सहायता कर सकता है। Findings को symptoms और बाकी ENT examination के साथ interpret किया जाता है.
महत्वपूर्ण limitation: VLS image किसी lesion को दिखा सकती है, लेकिन cancer की पुष्टि केवल appearance से नहीं होती। Suspicious tissue के लिए biopsy और pathology की जरूरत पड़ सकती है। इसी तरह, isolated redness देखकर reflux का final diagnosis नहीं किया जाना चाहिए.
VLS से पहले क्या तैयारी करें?
- अपने symptoms की duration और triggers लिख लें.
- Current medicines, allergies और previous throat/neck reports साथ रखें.
- अगर local anaesthetic spray दिया जाए तो खाने-पीने के बारे में clinician की after-care advice follow करें.
- Appointment से पहले fasting या medicine रोकने की जरूरत अपने clinic से confirm करें; खुद से blood thinner बंद न करें.
VLS test cost या price कैसे पता करें?
GSC data में “VLS test cost” और “gale ki durbin janch price” queries दिखाई देती हैं, लेकिन fee बिना current owner evidence के publish करना उचित नहीं है। Price scope type, consultation, recording, stroboscopy, anaesthetic use और additional procedure पर निर्भर कर सकती है। Visit से पहले पूछें कि quoted amount में consultation और कौन-सी examination शामिल है।
कब जल्दी medical review लें?
चार सप्ताह से अधिक voice change, neck lump, coughing blood, progressive swallowing difficulty, unexplained weight loss या persistent one-sided throat/ear pain में timely ENT review लें। सांस लेने में तेज difficulty, noisy breathing with distress, blue lips, inability to swallow saliva या rapidly worsening airway symptoms हों तो routine appointment का इंतजार न करें—urgent emergency assessment लें.
