Pediatric Hearing Tests
1. OAE – Otoacoustic Emissions (Newborn Screening):
CRITICAL for early detection!
- Age: Newborns (24 hours बाद कभी भी), infants
- Purpose: Inner ear (cochlea) functioning check
- Procedure:
- Small probe ear में (like earphone)
- Soft clicks play

- Procedure:
- Electrodes on scalp (painless stickers)
- Soft clicks through earphones
- Brain electrical responses measure
- Baby must sleep (natural या light sedation)
- Duration: 30-45 minutes
- Results: Exact hearing threshold both ears
- Gold standard for infant hearing assessment
3. Play Audiometry (2-5 years):
- Fun, game-based!
- Child wears headphones
- When sound heard → action (put ring on pole, drop block)
- Conditioning required

4. Pure Tone Audiometry (5+ years):

5. Tympanometry (All Ages):

Ideally birth के 1 month के अंदर OAE screening करवाएं। अगर OAE refer आए तो 3 months तक BERA confirm करें। Early detection crucial है – speech development के लिए पहले 6 months critical period है!
बिल्कुल नहीं! OAE, BERA, Tympanometry, Audiometry – सभी painless हैं। Nasal endoscopy में slight discomfort हो सकता है but very brief। हम gentle approach use करते हैं, parents साथ रहते हैं, distraction techniques से बच्चे comfortable रहते हैं।
Koi problem nahi! हम patient हैं। कभी-कभी 2-3 sessions लगते हैं conditioning के लिए। अगर child बहुत young है या cooperation difficult तो BERA (objective test) option है – sleep में होता है, cooperation की ज़रूरत नहीं।
Nasal endoscopy से adenoid size देखते हैं। अगर 70-100% blocking + persistent symptoms (mouth breathing, snoring, recurrent ear infections) despite medical treatment तो surgery recommend होती है। Decision based on: size + symptoms + impact on child’s quality of life।
